Dual-Alternator Charge Balancing Controller for Twin-Engine Marine Systems

Provides coordinated charging control for twin-engine vessels using two alternators and two compatible Max Charge regulators to charge a single large battery bank. By monitoring ignition and field voltages from the port and starboard regulators, the controller determines when both engines are operating and directs field current from the master starboard regulator to both alternators. This shared field source allows the two alternators to operate together with balanced field control, combining their available charging output for the common battery bank. Separate port and starboard ignition, field and dash-lamp connections support system integration, while onboard LEDs provide visual indication of ignition status, dash-lamp activity and combined operation.

Key Features

  • Twin-Engine Charging Control: Coordinates two alternators and two regulators in compatible twin-engine marine charging systems.
  • Combined Alternator Output: Enables both alternators to contribute charging output to a single large battery bank when both engines are running.
  • Master and Slave Control: Uses the starboard regulator as the master field source when combined operation is active.
  • Automatic Engine Detection: Monitors port and starboard ignition inputs to determine when both engines are operating.
  • Balanced Field Current: Directs field current from the master regulator to both alternators during combined charging operation.
  • 12 V and 24 V Compatibility: Supports compatible 12 V and 24 V twin-engine charging system configurations.
  • Port and Starboard Monitoring: Provides dedicated connections and status indicators for both sides of the charging system.
  • Combine Status Indicator: An amber LED indicates when both alternators and voltage regulators are active under balanced field control.
  • Dash Lamp Integration: Provides dedicated port and starboard connections for regulator and vessel dash-lamp circuits.
  • Installation Accessories Included: Supplied with wiring terminal connectors and two fused 12-gauge red regulator power wires.
  • Bulkhead Mounting: Designed for installation on a flat surface away from excessive heat and moisture.

Coordinating both charging sources through a common master field signal allows compatible twin-engine installations to charge one large battery bank efficiently. Dedicated status indicators also provide straightforward visual monitoring of the port, starboard and combined operating states.
