12V/24V DC-to-DC Battery Charger for Marine Starting Battery Systems
Provides regulated charging from a vessel’s house battery bank to a starting battery without placing a charge-splitting device between the alternator and batteries. Operating as a DC-to-DC charger, it automatically detects charging voltage at the house bank and supplies up to 30 A of regulated current to the secondary battery. Programmable 12 V and 24 V operation supports Standard Flooded, Deep Cycle Flooded, Gel and AGM battery technologies, allowing different house and starting battery types to be used within the same electrical system. Adjustable upper and lower voltage limits provide additional charging control, while optional battery temperature sensing can stop charging if an over-temperature condition is detected.
Key Features
- 30 A Regulated Charging: Supplies up to 30 A of controlled charging current from the house battery system to the starting battery.
- 12 V and 24 V Operation: Programmable for use with compatible 12 V or 24 V marine electrical systems.
- Four Battery Programs: Supports Standard Flooded, Deep Cycle Flooded, Gel and AGM battery charging profiles.
- Mixed Battery Technology Support: Allows the house and starting banks to use different compatible battery technologies with independently controlled charging voltage.
- Adjustable Voltage Limits: Upper and lower charging voltage thresholds can be programmed to accommodate battery requirements beyond the preset profiles.
- Automatic Charging Activation: Detects charging voltage at the house battery and automatically begins supplying regulated current to the starting battery.
- Six-LED Display: Provides visual indication of operating mode, battery program and programmed voltage settings.
- Temperature Sensor Support: Accepts an optional battery temperature sensor and can discontinue charging if excessive battery temperature is detected.
- External Solenoid Control: Provides a solenoid drive function for manually bypassing the internal 30 A charging circuit in higher-current applications.
- Four-Wire Basic Installation: Standard operation requires fused input, fused output, ground and ON/OFF connections.
- Fused Charging Cables: Includes 30 A fused 10-gauge input and output cables for system installation.
Separating secondary-battery charging from primary alternator regulation allows the charging source to respond directly to the needs of the house bank while maintaining controlled starting-battery charging. Programmable voltage and battery settings provide additional flexibility for mixed-bank marine electrical installations.
