Advanced Sailboat Autopilot System with Brushless Linear Steering Control
The Garmin Reactor™ Sail Corepack with SmartDrive™ is an integrated autopilot system for sailboats and catamarans equipped with mechanical steering. Combining an advanced course computer with a brushless linear actuator, it delivers precise rudder control, consistent heading accuracy and responsive steering in changing sea conditions. The SmartDrive actuator features an integrated Electronic Control Unit (ECU) and contactless rudder position sensor to minimise mechanical wear and simplify installation. Solid-state motion sensing compensates for vessel movement, while dedicated sailing functions support wind-angle steering, controlled tacking and gybing. Supplied without an autopilot display, the system integrates with compatible Garmin helm controls and marine electronics.
Key Features
- Integrated Autopilot System: Combines the Reactor course computer and SmartDrive linear actuator for coordinated mechanical steering control.
- Brushless SmartDrive Actuator: Features a brushless DC motor with an integrated ECU for smooth steering response, reduced mechanical wear and simplified installation.
- Contactless Rudder Feedback: Integrated rudder position sensor monitors steering movement without mechanical contact, improving reliability and reducing maintenance requirements.
- Advanced Motion Sensing: Solid-state AHRS technology continuously monitors vessel movement and heading, maintaining steering accuracy during pitching and rolling.
- Sailing-Specific Functions: Supports wind-angle steering with a compatible wind sensor, adjustable tack and gybe speeds, automatic steering response and improved upwind holding.
- Adjustable Steering Force: Configurable thrust settings accommodate different vessel displacement and steering requirements.
- Flexible Installation: Compact course computer supports mounting in various orientations, while the actuator's conventional linear-drive configuration facilitates retrofitting.
- Simplified Commissioning: Guided calibration streamlines autopilot setup and initial configuration.
- Marine Network Integration: Supports NMEA networking and integration with compatible Garmin chartplotters, autopilot controls and marine instruments.
- Wireless Control Compatibility: Enables remote autopilot operation through compatible Garmin handheld remotes and quatix smartwatches.
- Display-Free Configuration: Supplied without a dedicated autopilot display, allowing integration with a separately purchased compatible Garmin helm control.
The Reactor Sail Corepack combines intelligent motion sensing with electronically controlled linear steering for consistent autopilot performance. Its adjustable actuator settings and flexible installation options support new installations and upgrades to existing mechanical steering systems.
