40 A MPPT solar charge controller for 12 V lithium and deep-cycle battery systems
The Renogy Rover Li 40 A MPPT Solar Charge Controller manages solar charging for 12 V battery systems in caravans, RVs, 4WDs, cabins and other off-grid installations. Renogy's Power Catcher MPPT technology tracks the solar array's optimum operating point to maximise the energy available for battery charging, particularly where panel voltage is higher than battery voltage. The controller supports lithium, sealed/AGM, gel and flooded batteries, including lithium battery activation for compatible batteries that have entered BMS protection after excessive discharge.
Key Features
- Power Catcher MPPT technology: Continuously tracks the optimum maximum power point of the connected solar array for efficient energy conversion.
- Lithium battery activation: Sends a small charging current to compatible over-discharged lithium batteries to help bring them out of BMS protection mode.
- Multiple battery chemistries: Supports lithium, sealed/AGM, gel and flooded deep-cycle batteries.
- Four-stage charging: Renogy specifies four-stage charging for compatible battery systems to manage the charging process efficiently.
- High-voltage solar input: Accepts higher-voltage PV configurations, providing flexibility when connecting multiple solar panels in series, parallel or series-parallel arrangements.
- Integrated LCD: Provides local access to controller status and operating information.
- Remote monitoring support: Compatible with the optional Renogy BT-2 Bluetooth Module and Renogy DC Home App for wireless system monitoring.
- Temperature compensation: Includes a remote temperature sensor for temperature-compensated charging of non-lithium batteries; Renogy states the sensor is not required in lithium mode.
- Electrical protection: Incorporates protection against overcharging, over-discharging, overload and short circuit.
- Installation requirements: Renogy specifies vertical mounting with clearance around the controller for adequate heat dissipation and recommends connecting the battery before the solar array.
The Rover Li is particularly useful for 12 V installations where a higher-voltage solar array needs to be efficiently converted into controlled battery charging, with dedicated support for both lithium and traditional deep-cycle battery systems.
