Four Years. Multiple Continents. One Epic Adventure... all powered by Victron

Four Years. Multiple Continents. One Epic Adventure.

There are road trips, and then there are adventures that redefine what's possible.

Spida's BIG BIG Lap of the World is exactly that. Over the next four years, Spida will embark on an extraordinary journey, driving his ute across multiple continents and taking on iconic—but often lesser-known—routes in every country he visits. Rather than simply circumnavigating one continent, this expedition will see the vehicle shipped from country to country as the adventure continues across the globe.

With thousands of kilometres of remote roads, changing climates, and countless off-grid camps ahead, dependable electrical power isn't just a convenience—it's an essential part of making the journey possible.

That's where Outback Marine Australia comes in.

Built to Keep the Adventure Connected

Outback Marine is proud to sponsor Spida's BIG BIG Lap by supplying a complete Victron Energy electrical system that transforms the ute into a fully self-sufficient mobile basecamp.

Whether parked in the Australian outback, exploring the mountains of Europe, or camping beside remote coastlines in South America, the system provides reliable power for the equipment needed to document and enjoy the journey.

The installation will power:

  • Starlink Mini satellite internet
  • Camera and video equipment
  • Laptops and tablets
  • Drone batteries
  • Mobile phones and communication devices
  • Portable fridge/freezer
  • Both 12V DC and 240V AC appliances via a powerful inverter

Having reliable power means Spida can stay connected, edit content, navigate remote locations, keep essential equipment charged, and share the adventure with followers from almost anywhere in the world.

Professionally Installed by Red Dog Campers

A system of this calibre deserves an equally professional installation.

The complete electrical fit-out was installed by Red Dog Campers on the Gold Coast, integrating every component neatly into the ute canopy to create a reliable, serviceable, and adventure-ready power system capable of handling years of continuous travel.

A Premium Victron Energy Power System

At the heart of the build is a premium Victron Energy ecosystem designed for maximum reliability, intelligent monitoring, and multiple charging sources.

System Highlights

  • 400Ah LiFePO₄ battery bank providing approximately 5.12kWh of usable energy
  • 3000W Victron MultiPlus-II inverter/charger delivering 240V AC power wherever the vehicle travels
  • 365W rooftop solar keeping the batteries topped up while camping off-grid
  • Victron SmartSolar MPPT 100/30 for efficient solar charging
  • Victron Orion XS 1400 DC-DC charger charging from the vehicle alternator while driving
  • Victron Lynx Smart BMS NG 500A providing advanced lithium battery protection and management
  • Cerbo GX MK2 with GX Touch 50 display enabling complete system monitoring and control
  • 300A fused battery protection with isolation switches for safety and servicing
  • VE.Direct communication network connecting system components for intelligent monitoring
  • Three dual USB charging outlets plus a dedicated Starlink Mini DC power supply

Together, these components create a robust off-grid electrical system capable of powering everything from everyday electronics through to high-demand 240V appliances while offering real-time monitoring of battery status, charging performance, and overall system health.

Designed for Life Off the Grid

One of the biggest challenges of long-distance overland travel is ensuring power is always available, regardless of location.

This system has been engineered with multiple charging sources working together:

  • Solar captures energy whenever the sun is shining.
  • The alternator charges the batteries while driving between destinations.
  • Shore power can recharge the system whenever mains electricity is available.

The combination ensures maximum flexibility throughout the four-year expedition, allowing Spida to spend more time exploring remote destinations and less time worrying about power.

Engineering That Inspires Confidence

The wiring layout demonstrates the level of planning that has gone into the build, with dedicated protection, intelligent battery management, integrated communications, and clearly separated charging circuits ensuring safe, efficient operation across every component.

Every major component has been selected to work seamlessly within the Victron ecosystem, creating an electrical system that is easy to monitor, highly efficient, and built for years of demanding travel.

Following the Journey

We're excited to be part of Spida's BIG BIG Lap of the World and can't wait to see where the road takes him over the next four years. From remote desert tracks to mountain passes and everything in between, this adventure is set to showcase not only incredible destinations but also what a professionally designed off-grid power system can achieve when reliability matters most.

From everyone at Outback Marine Australia, we wish Spida safe travels and look forward to following every kilometre of this unforgettable journey.
