Up to 25 charge controllers can be daisy-chained and connected to a Color Control GX or other GX device. This greatly improves wiring simplicity and cost on large systems. Previously, all units required their own communications cable to be wired to a network of adapters and USB hubs to connect to the GX Device. The VE.DIrect port found on other SmartSolar controllers is retained, ensuring no functionality is lost by selecting the VE.CAN models.
 

The charge controllers come ready configured for the synchronization mechanism which begins to work as soon as they are connected together with the network cable. ESS (Energy Storage Systems) are supported and controlled by intelligent (CANBUS) batteries but requires a Venus GX (not compatible with the Color Control).

MPPT controllers operate solar panels at their Maximum Power Point improving efficiency up to 30% by adjusting input voltage to harvest the maximum power from the solar panels. It then manages this power to supply the varying voltage requirement of the battery plus load.
 

The MPPT senses when to adjust the output that it is being sent to the battery and will shut down for a few microseconds, calculate and make relevant adjustments. The principle of MPPT is to extract the maximum possible power from a solar panel by setting the most efficient combination of voltage and current - maximum power point.
 

The Victron MPPT SmartSolar support Advanced Maximum Power Point Detection. Great controller however gets very hot and impossi

This MPPT delivers the expected watts and is able to handle a decent amount of volts (250VDC) for reduced cable size over a 16m run I had and it connects easily to Cerbo and the phone app is great. You can setup one controller and save a profile and load it to multiple controllers. Cons are it gets very hot (too hot to touch for more than a couple of seconds) and I have measured temps of 65 degrees when delivering 4000 watts which is well under its rated capability). The unit is designed to bolt directly to a surface however this reduces heatsink airflow and cooling and I have had to put spacers in so that the heatsink is not in direct contact with the wall and I added 2 x computer PC cooling fans to help cool. The unit is heavy and I thought at first the heat sink was pretty decent but it isn't really big enough given the heat issues I refer to. Even with 2x 120x120mm PC cooling fans which allow air movement through and behind the heatsink and across the metal cover it still gets quite hot and the longevity of very hot components is a concern to me. Now for the massive negative - I have found that it is impossible to repair without destroying the cover as the 4 x toroidal transformers (2 small and 2 large) and the 8 x 300uf capacitors are glued into the metal housing which must have been then placed onto the unit and hence PCB whilst still wet in the factory. This is a real joke honestly as it looks like the metal cover has 4 screws and can be easily removed but do not be fooled. There is a youtube video of someone destroying the metal cover to get the unit apart and making very precise hole saw and angle grinder cuts. Victron really need to address the repair and heat issues and I cannot recommend this unit or probably any of their other MPPTs that are unrepairable. In summary great unit until something goes wrong. I will be checking very carefully before I replace my inverter with a Victron one to make sure it is repairable. Outback Marine get 5 stars for their prices and service and I can highly recommend them. This review is essentially negative based on the MPPT being unrepairable and getting crazy hot.
